Saray is a small inland town in Eastern Thrace, in the Istranca foothills, and a transport hub rather than a destination. Its Ottoman mosque, park and stream caves fill half a day; most travellers pass through on the way to Kıyıköy or İğneada. Use it as a break in a road or bus journey, not as a base for the region.

Getting around

The centre is compact and walkable in 10–15 minutes end to end. You need a car or taxi for the caves 5 km north and for the Black Sea resorts; dolmuşes run to Çorlu and nearby villages.

Safety

Quiet and low-crime; the real risks are unlit cave tracks after rain, fast traffic on the D020 and D567, and summer heat. Use 112 for anything urgent.
  • Several Turkish towns are called Saray: book and search as "Saray, Tekirdağ".
  • Some intercity buses to the Black Sea coast have been suspended — confirm at the bus station before relying on them.
  • The name Elit Hotel appears twice in town; check the address (Ayaspaşa, Mezarlık Cd) before booking.
  • Cave tracks along the Ergene are unmarked and slippery after rain; go with someone who knows them.
