Radom

Skip Radom as a destination. Stop only if you are passing on the Warsaw–Kraków line, and then for 3–4 hours on foot, not a night.

Radom is Poland's second city in Mazowieckie by population (about 220,000) and one of its cheapest, but it has few sights and thin tourist infrastructure. Most travellers pass it on the Warsaw–Kraków rail corridor. Treat it as a half-day leg-stretch or a base only if you have family or business here.

Rules in force · 8Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Central Europe ↗Six of the nine countries here — Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia — charge a time-based motorway vignette, mostly digital and linked to the number plate; buy it before the first motorway past the border, because cameras, not toll booths, do the checking.
  • Central Europe ↗Temporary police checks at internal Schengen borders are common in this region in 2026 (Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia among others — check): keep your passport on you on every cross-border train, bus and road even though there is no fixed control post.
  • Poland ↗Poland is in the EU and the Schengen area: check entry rules, the EU Entry/Exit System and any travel authorisation requirement for your passport on official sources.
  • Poland ↗The currency is the Polish złoty (PLN), not the euro: decline dynamic currency conversion.
  • Poland ↗Most shops close on most Sundays under the trading law; small convenience stores and station shops are the exception.
  • Poland ↗The border areas with Belarus and Russia's Kaliningrad region have restricted zones; follow your own government's advice before travelling near them.

Getting around

The centre is walkable end to end in about 25 minutes. City buses (24 lines, single ticket 3.80 zł, validate on boarding) cover the outer districts; taxis and ride-hailing are cheap. A car only helps for the open-air museum and the airport.

Warsaw

go

Door to door: About 2–3 h

The obvious next stop north; buses from Metro Wilanowska are often cheaper if booked ahead.

Szydłowiec

caution

Door to door: About 1 h

Bus or car, about 30 km (19 mi) southwest

Small town with a late-Gothic church and a wooden synagogue; check bus times first.

Żelazowa Wola

Door to door: About 2 h 30 min

Car or bus via Sochaczew, about 130 km (81 mi) northwest

Chopin's birthplace; too far for a comfortable return day from Radom.

Direct train, about 3–3 h 30 min

Radom sits on the Warsaw–Kraków line; use it as a stop, not a base.

City centre (Żeromskiego / Rynek)

Walkable to the main sights, cafés and the bus and rail stations; the only area that makes sense for a short stay.

Around Dworzec PKP

Cheap and convenient for early trains, but plain and not a place to linger after dark.

Watch out

Safety

Radom is generally safe by day; the centre is quiet at night and the area around the rail and bus stations is best avoided after dark. Standard big-city precautions apply.
  • English is less common in shops and restaurants than in Warsaw or Kraków; have a translation app ready.
  • The centre has a paid-parking zone Mon–Fri 08:00–16:00; pay at the meter or by phone.
  • Radom-Sadków Airport has very few passenger flights: do not build a trip around it without checking.
  • The Radom Air Show is biannual and was last held in 2018; confirm the next date before travelling for it.
