Give Aurora one full day and one night if you are already in the Fox River Valley; do not fly in for it alone — the draw is a walkable river downtown, not a destination list.
Aurora is Illinois's second-largest city, about 35 miles west of Chicago on the Fox River, and the last stop on Metra's BNSF line from Union Station. Its downtown is denser and older than a typical suburb: a restored 1930s Art Deco theatre, a riverwalk, a 19th-century fire station museum and a brewery in a roundhouse. Most travellers see it as a half-day add-on to a Chicago trip or a base for the Fox River towns, not a standalone destination.

Getting around
A car is the practical default: sights are spread over 10 km and buses run infrequently. Pace buses link the Aurora Transportation Center with the rest of the city and with Elgin, Geneva, St. Charles, Batavia and Naperville. Downtown itself is walkable — station to Paramount is about 10 min on foot.
