Lisle is a small DuPage County village on Metra's BNSF line, about 25 miles west of Chicago. Its one real draw is the Morton Arboretum, a 1,700-acre tree collection on the village's north edge. Everything else — a free local-history museum, a summer splash park, a Saturday market — is small-scale and mostly of interest if you are already in the western suburbs. Come by car, or by train plus a rideshare, and treat it as a half-day add-on to Naperville or Downers Grove rather than a destination of its own.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: sights are spread over 3–4 miles and sidewalks are patchy. Metra's BNSF line stops at Lisle station (1000 Front St) with a pedestrian tunnel under the tracks; from Chicago it is roughly 40–50 min. From the station, downtown is walkable, the arboretum is not — use a rideshare or the seasonal shuttle if one is running (check).

Watch out

Safety

Lisle is a low-crime suburban village and feels safe day and night. The real risks are driving: I-88 and IL-53 interchanges, winter ice on the arboretum's trails, and deer on the roads at dusk.
  • The arboretum charges an entry fee per adult and per car; buy online to skip the gate queue.
  • Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum requires a booked appointment in advance — no walk-ins.
  • Dragonfly Landing splash pad runs Memorial Day to Labor Day only.
  • Weekday Metra trains are commuter-heavy; check the timetable before an evening return to Chicago.
