Lisle
Give Lisle one night, or half a day: the arboretum is the reason to come, and a car is the only practical way to see it.
Lisle is a small DuPage County village on Metra's BNSF line, about 25 miles west of Chicago. Its one real draw is the Morton Arboretum, a 1,700-acre tree collection on the village's north edge. Everything else — a free local-history museum, a summer splash park, a Saturday market — is small-scale and mostly of interest if you are already in the western suburbs. Come by car, or by train plus a rideshare, and treat it as a half-day add-on to Naperville or Downers Grove rather than a destination of its own.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: sights are spread over 3–4 miles and sidewalks are patchy. Metra's BNSF line stops at Lisle station (1000 Front St) with a pedestrian tunnel under the tracks; from Chicago it is roughly 40–50 min. From the station, downtown is walkable, the arboretum is not — use a rideshare or the seasonal shuttle if one is running (check).

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- The arboretum charges an entry fee per adult and per car; buy online to skip the gate queue.
- Jurica-Suchy Nature Museum requires a booked appointment in advance — no walk-ins.
- Dragonfly Landing splash pad runs Memorial Day to Labor Day only.
- Weekday Metra trains are commuter-heavy; check the timetable before an evening return to Chicago.
Lisle is a low-crime suburban village and feels safe day and night. The real risks are driving: I-88 and IL-53 interchanges, winter ice on the arboretum's trails, and deer on the roads at dusk.
