Rules in force · 8Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…Mine-suspected land still exists in Bosnia and Herzegovin…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Balkans ↗Mine-suspected land still exists in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in pockets of Croatia's former front line: outside towns keep to tarmac and waymarked paths, and treat red triangle signs and taped-off fields as absolute.
- Balkans ↗Serbia refuses onward entry to travellers who reached Kosovo from a third country and then try to cross straight into Serbia; route Kosovo–Serbia legs through North Macedonia or Montenegro, or start the loop in Serbia.
- Balkans ↗Hire cars need written permission from the rental company and valid insurance for every country on the line; Kosovo sells its own border insurance and some contracts exclude Albania, Kosovo or Bosnia outright.
- Serbia ↗Serbia is outside the EU and Schengen area and sets its own entry rules; check the official requirements for your passport.
- Serbia ↗Foreign visitors must be registered with the police after arrival; hotels do it, but in private rentals ask your host to confirm.
- Serbia ↗Serbia does not accept entry into Kosovo from a third country as entry into Serbia. If you plan to cross between Kosovo and Serbia, check your government's advice for both before you book.
Kragujevac was Serbia's capital from 1818 to 1841 and is the fourth-largest city in the country, the industrial centre of Šumadija. The sights that matter — the Šumarice memorial, the 19th-century core, the old arsenal museums — fit one unhurried day. Most travellers pass through on the Belgrade–Niš corridor or use it as a base for the Šumadija monasteries.

Getting around
The centre is compact and walkable — Old Church, National Museum, theatre and market are all within 15 minutes on foot. Šumarice Memorial Park sits on the northern edge of the city: take a local bus or a taxi. Taxis are cheap; a cross-town ride is usually under €4. The city bus network is extensive and tickets are bought from the driver.

Watch out
Safety
- Šumarice is a memorial and mass grave site: keep quiet, no picnics or loud groups.
- Some museums keep short weekday hours (often mornings only) — check before you go.
- Smoking is still common in cafés and bars despite partial bans.
- No commercial airport in the city: Morava has very few weekly flights, so plan via Belgrade or Niš.

- Airport-to-bed contract for BEG and KVO: last bus departures field-checked, taxi fallback, overnight rung.
- Walking cluster map for the old capital core: Old Church, National Museum, theatre, Amidža's Lodgings, market.
- Place pages with verified hours for Šumarice, the 21st October museum, Stara livnica and the aquarium.
- Hostile arrival fixtures (late bus, no taxi) so gates can go green.
