Chandigarh is India's first planned city, a union territory that is capital of both Punjab and Haryana. Le Corbusier's grid of 47 self-contained sectors, the Capitol Complex and Nek Chand's Rock Garden are the draw; the city is also the road and rail gateway to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Most travellers see it in a day or use it as a clean, calm stop between Delhi and the hills.

CTU city buses run about 06:00–22:00 across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula; fares start around ₹20, e.g. railway station to ISBT-43 about ₹25. App cabs (Uber, Ola, inDrive) and pink radio autos cover the rest — autos rarely use the meter, so agree the fare first. SmartBike docked cycles and e-cycles cost about ₹10 per half hour. The Hop On Hop Off double-decker starts near Hotel Shivalikview in Sector 17.

Safety
- The Capitol Complex is fenced and guarded: you can only get close on the guided tour, and the Assembly and Secretariat are weekdays only.
- Dec–Feb brings heavy fog on the Delhi–Chandigarh highway, especially at night and early morning — avoid a same-day road transfer in winter.
- Autos and some cabs quote without a meter: fix the price before you get in.
