It has a restored harbour fort, a coastal walk, a yacht club and a string of beaches to the west. Most people see it in an afternoon; one night makes the beaches and Cork Week work.

Bus Éireann 220 / 220X links Cork city centre, Carrigaline and Crosshaven every 30 min, about 40 min end to end; it also runs west as far as Camden Fort Meagher. Taxis are based in Carrigaline. A car is the practical way to reach the beaches and Kinsale.

Watch out

Safety

A quiet, low-crime village; the real risks are cold water and currents at the beaches, the low-tide scramble on the coastal path, and narrow roads with no footpath west of the village.
  • The coastal path south of Camden Fort is a scramble and only passable at low tide.
  • Fort Templebreedy is fenced off by the Department of Defence; public access is blocked.
  • Vodafone has no signal in the village or on the approach road; Eir and Three have 5G.
  • Camden Fort Meagher closes outside its seasonal window: check before you travel.
  • Bus 220 is the only public transport link; last services back to Cork are early evening.
