Give Djerba 2–3 nights: one for Houmt Souk and the fort, one for the beaches and lagoon, one for Guellala and the villages. Fewer and you are just at the pool.
Djerba is North Africa's largest island, joined to the mainland by a causeway and a ferry, and the south's main beach base. It is not a resort strip alone: Houmt Souk has a working market and a 14th-century fort, Guellala makes pottery, Erriadh carries the Djerbahood street art and the El Ghriba synagogue, and the west coast holds the Star Wars locations. Beaches and hotels cluster in the north-east around Sidi Mahrez and Midoun; the quiet, cheaper island is inland and on the west.

Getting around
Taxis are the practical option: they are metered and drivers generally use the meter, but agree the fare for longer runs. Louages (shared vans) cover Houmt Souk–Midoun–Ajim cheaply. Bicycles and scooters rent in Houmt Souk and near Midoun; main roads are good and traffic is light outside towns, but side roads are often unpaved and unlit at night. Ride-hailing apps did not work on the island as of early 2024 (check).
