Boston is a small Lincolnshire market town on the flat fenland edge, best known for St Botolph's Church ('the Stump'), whose 272 ft tower is the tallest parish church tower in England and visible for miles. The Prime Meridian runs through the town. Sights are few and close together, so a day covers the centre; the windmills and the Bubblecar Museum need a car or a bus. Most travellers pass through on the Poacher Line between Grantham and Skegness, or use it as a quiet base for Lincolnshire.

Getting around

The centre is walkable: the station to the Stump is about 15 minutes on foot. Buses cover the suburbs and nearby villages, but services are thin in the evening and on Sundays. For the windmills and the Bubblecar Museum you want a car, a bike or a taxi; the Water Rail Way path along the River Witham is level and good for cycling.

A quiet, low-crime market town; the real risks are unlit roads and pavements outside the centre, fast traffic on the A16 and A52, and tidal mud along the Haven and the Wash.
