Râșnov is a small Saxon town 15 km from Brașov with one headline sight, the 14th-century hilltop citadel, plus a dinosaur park and a limestone gorge. Most travellers see the fortress on a half-day run from Brașov; sleeping here pays off only if you want cheaper beds and a base for Bran, Poiana Brașov and the Piatra Craiului. Two nights is the useful maximum.

The centre is walkable in 15 minutes. The citadel is a 15–20 min uphill walk through forest from the centre, or a short drive to the upper parking. Buses to Brașov stop several times along the main road. Taxis are cheap; agree the fare or check the meter.

Low street crime; the real risks are bears in the surrounding forests, unlit forest paths at night and mountain weather. Use 112 for anything urgent.
  • Bears are real in the forests around Cheile Râșnoavei and toward Poiana Brașov: do not camp or walk at night outside fenced areas, and never feed or approach one.
  • The citadel car park is small and tight in high season; arrive before 11:00 or walk up.
  • The forest path to the citadel has been under repair at times: check locally before relying on it.
  • Some citadel and Dino Park prices and hours change by season: confirm before you go.
