Třešť is a small Highlands town of about 5,600 people halfway between Jihlava and Telč, known for family-built nativity scenes ('betlémy') that owners open to visitors between Christmas and early February. Franz Kafka spent summers here from 1900 to 1907. Outside the nativity season the town is a short stop: a museum, a synagogue, a natural swimming pool and Roštejn Castle nearby. Most travellers see it as a half-day between Jihlava and Telč, or as a single winter night.

- Roštejn Castle is closed on Mondays in season and mostly shut from November to March.
- The Čenkov quarry has a rocky, steep entry with almost no beach; wear shoes, not flip-flops.
