Krujë is a small mountain town 31 km north of Tirana, built around a 17th-century bazaar and the castle where Skanderbeg held off the Ottomans for 25 years. Almost everything sits on one walkable street, so one night is enough; most people visit as a day trip from Tirana.

Watch out

Safety

Krujë is a small, low-crime town and safe to walk by day. The real risks are the steep, uneven castle path, stray dogs on the upper trails and unlit roads after dark.
  • The castle path is steep and uneven in places; wear shoes with grip.
  • Some museums and the Sari Salltik shrine keep irregular hours and close without notice: check locally.
  • Cash is king in the bazaar; not every stall takes cards.
  • Mountain trails above town are partly unfinished and some caves are used by stray dogs.
