Thuin
Give Thuin half a day plus a tram Sunday: belfry, north wall, hanging gardens, then ASVi museum trams Apr–Oct. Sleep in Charleroi or Lobbes.
Thuin is a small hilltop town on the Sambre, 20 minutes by train from Charleroi. The upper town holds a UNESCO belfry, a medieval wall and stepped gardens; the lower town has the tram museum. Two to four hours covers the centre, so most travellers come as a half-day trip and sleep elsewhere. The one reason to plan a date is the ASVi museum tramway, which runs mainly on Sundays from April to October.

Getting around
The centre is about 500 m by 500 m and walkable, but the lanes between the lower and upper town are steep. Trains from Charleroi-Sud run roughly hourly on weekdays and every two hours at weekends; the station sits north of the Sambre, so you cross a bridge into the lower town. Local buses and the museum tram cover the outskirts.

Safety
- The climb between lower and upper town is steep and cobbled: wear shoes with grip.
- ASVi museum and tram runs are limited to certain days, mostly Sundays, April to October: check before you travel.
- Blank gunfire at the Saint-Roch March in May is loud: ear plugs help with small children.
