Base here 2–3 nights only if you want a quiet resort beach (Sire, Medana) and Rinjani or Gili day trips; otherwise sleep in Senggigi and visit.
Tanjung is the small administrative capital of North Lombok Regency, on the west coast road about 45–60 min north of Senggigi. It is not a sightseeing town: the draw is the resort strip on the Sire peninsula and Medana Bay, plus access to the Gili Islands via Bangsal, the Senaru waterfalls and Mount Rinjani's northern trailheads. Mid-range beds are scarce, so most travellers either pay resort prices here or sleep further south.

Getting around
One two-lane coast road runs through Tanjung; everything else is side lanes. Bemos (minibuses) cover short hops and the coast but stop by dusk and often will not go north of Mangsit — agree the fare before boarding. Bluebird and Express Taksi have meters and 24 h dispatch; your hotel can book one. Ojeks (motorbike taxis) and cidomo (horse carts) handle short local trips — fix the price first. Scooter or car rental is easiest arranged in Senggigi or Mataram, where choice is wider.

Watch out
Safety
- Bemos stop running by dusk on this coast: have a taxi number before an evening out.
- Bemos to Bangsal set down in Pemenang, not at the harbour — you walk or take a cidomo the last stretch.
- Trucks on the main coast road drive fast; be careful cycling or riding a scooter.
- The Sekoah waterfall path is mossy and steep — skip it in or just after rain.
- Bring mosquito repellent for waterfall and village walks.
- Resort rates add 10% service and 11% government tax on top of the quoted price.
