How much does a trip to Qatar cost? Daily budget and prices

Qatar's daily cost is decided by your bed, not your plate. A cafeteria shawarma costs QAR 8–25 and the metro caps at QAR 6 a day, so a careful traveller can eat and move for under QAR 100. The same night in a 5★ hotel can cost more than a budget week.

The three bands below are per person per day, with mid-range and comfort figures assuming a shared room. Flights, visa fees and alcohol are not included. These are 2026 estimates: National Day, the F1 weekend and conference weeks push room rates up, while summer lows pull them down.

Use this list to sanity-check your own plan. Prices are 2026 estimates in riyals; the riyal is pegged to the US dollar at about 3.64, so the conversion barely moves.

Two items swing the total most. Hotel rooms double or triple during the F1 weekend and major conferences, and alcohol is sold only in hotel bars and licensed restaurants, at QAR 45–65 for a beer and QAR 50–70 for a cocktail.

The biggest saving is a stopover package. Qatar Airways and Discover Qatar sell hotel-plus-flight stopover deals that can cut room prices sharply, which is why a 2–4 night Doha stop is the cheapest way most visitors see the country.

Second, sleep outside the centre. Hotels in Al Sadd, Al Wakrah or near the airport often cost less than Corniche-front properties, and the metro connects them cheaply. Third, eat where residents eat: cafeterias, souq stalls and food courts rather than hotel restaurants. Fourth, build days around free or low-cost sights — the Corniche, Souq Waqif, Katara and the metro-accessible museums — and pay only for one desert trip.

Room rates are seasonal and event-driven. October to April is the comfortable season and the most expensive; the F1 weekend, National Day and large conferences can sell out the city and double rates. Summer (May–September) is hot and humid, with the lowest hotel prices of the year — a good trade if you keep to museums, malls and indoor sights.

Book early for anything in the peak window and check cancellation terms, since event pricing often comes with stricter rules.

Cards and phone payments work almost everywhere, including the metro, malls and most restaurants. Carry about QAR 200 in small notes for taxis, souq stalls and tips, where cash is still easier.

Service is often already added to restaurant bills; when it is not, tipping around 10% is common. Alcohol is served only in hotel bars and licensed venues, so budget for it separately if you drink.
