How to pick your dates, step by step

Start with what you want to do outside. Dune drives to Khor Al Adaid, the fort and ruins at Al Zubarah, Al Jassasiya rock carvings and long Corniche walks all need November–March. If your trip is museums, malls and the souq, summer is survivable and much cheaper, because almost everything moves indoors.

Then check the calendar. Ramadan (about 8 February – 9 March 2027, moving roughly 11 days earlier each year) restricts eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight, with fines, and shortens office and shop hours; alcohol service stops for the month. Eid al-Fitr follows and fills hotels and flights. National Day on 18 December and the Formula 1 weekend in November push prices up and close roads.

Then match the region. Doha and the east coast are mildest in winter but humid in August and September. The inland desert and the south have cold nights in December and January, 10 °C or less, and dangerous summer dunes. The north-west coast around Al Zubarah and Al Ruwais is shadeless, and the shamal wind brings dust storms mostly May–July.

Finally, book early for winter. December to February is peak for hotels and flights, and the Formula 1 weekend sells out Lusail accommodation months ahead. Summer bookings can be left late; that is where the deals are.
