Puck

Half a day: walk the old town, see the harbour and the Gothic church. Not a base — sleep in Gdańsk or Władysławowo.

Puck is a small Kashubian port town on the Bay of Puck, 40 km north of Gdańsk. Its main draws are the 14th-century Gothic church, a compact market square and a marina with views across the bay. Most travellers use it as a lunch stop between Gdańsk and the Hel Peninsula.

Rules in force · 8Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Central Europe ↗Six of the nine countries here — Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia — charge a time-based motorway vignette, mostly digital and linked to the number plate; buy it before the first motorway past the border, because cameras, not toll booths, do the checking.
  • Central Europe ↗Temporary police checks at internal Schengen borders are common in this region in 2026 (Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia among others — check): keep your passport on you on every cross-border train, bus and road even though there is no fixed control post.
  • Poland ↗Poland is in the EU and the Schengen area: check entry rules, the EU Entry/Exit System and any travel authorisation requirement for your passport on official sources.
  • Poland ↗The currency is the Polish złoty (PLN), not the euro: decline dynamic currency conversion.
  • Poland ↗Most shops close on most Sundays under the trading law; small convenience stores and station shops are the exception.
  • Poland ↗The border areas with Belarus and Russia's Kaliningrad region have restricted zones; follow your own government's advice before travelling near them.

Watch out

Safety

Very safe. Watch for pickpockets on crowded summer trains; the main risk is cold water and strong currents at the beach.
  • Last trains to Gdańsk leave around 22:00; check the schedule.
  • Many restaurants close on Mondays outside summer.
  • Parking in the old town is limited; use the lot near the harbour.
