This is the east side of Northern British Columbia: farmland along the Peace River in the south, boreal forest and the northern Rockies in the west and north. It is a driving region — one highway in, one highway out — and the reason to come is the Alaska Highway corridor, Tumbler Ridge's dinosaur tracks, and Liard River Hot Springs on the way to the Yukon. Without a car, skip it.

Peace Country (Dawson Creek, Fort St. John): Short growing season; summer days are long and mild, winters are long and well below freezing.
Northern Rockies (Fort Nelson, Muncho Lake): Shorter season again; snow can arrive early and stay late on the mountain sections.

July and August are the usual months for driving and camping; late May and September can work, but mountain-road and campground conditions are check.
