The Mexican Pacific runs from the Gulf of California down to the Oaxaca surf towns, and the resort strip between Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco is the country's densest concentration of beach beds. It is not one destination: the north (Nayarit, Jalisco) is resort and Riviera Nayarit, the middle (Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero) is surf, fishing ports and Acapulco, and the south (Oaxaca) splits into the surf town of Puerto Escondido and the sheltered bays of Huatulco. Fly between them — an air trip from Oaxaca to Guadalajara is over 1,000 km — and sleep in one place per stretch.
