The North Sound is the northern half of Puget Sound: Snohomish County suburbs, the Stillaguamish and Skykomish river towns, and Whidbey and Camano islands. It is not one place. Sleep in Everett for the waterfront, the aerospace museums and the ferries; in Lynnwood for light rail into Seattle; on Whidbey for two nights if you want the island pace. Everything else is a day-trip by car.

I-5 and I-405 jam in both rush hours; do not plan a ferry crossing or a Paine Field flight inside them.

Whidbey Island is long and slow: Clinton to Oak Harbor is about an hour by car, so do not treat the island as one stop.
