New York State splits into two trips that do not combine well. New York City is a walking-and-subway trip: 4–5 nights covers museums, Broadway and a borough or two. Upstate is a driving trip: Niagara Falls is about 6.5 hours by car from Manhattan, the Adirondack trailheads 4–5 hours, the Finger Lakes 4–5 hours. Pick one. Fly into Albany (ALB) or Buffalo (BUF) for the upstate week and rent a car there.
