Lutsk is the capital of Volyn and one of Ukraine's oldest cities, built on a bend of the Styr where an island settlement stood around 1000 CE. The walled old town holds Lubart's Castle, a cluster of churches and a compact pedestrian centre. It works as a one-day stop between Lviv and Rivne, or as a base for the Shatsky lakes.

The centre is walkable: castle to Market Square is about 10 minutes on foot. Buses and trolleybuses cover the rest; single rides cost roughly 8–25 грн (2026 estimate). Bolt, Uklon and local taxi apps are cheap for short hops.
