Langley is two places sharing a name: the City of Langley, a walkable strip of shops and restaurants along Fraser Highway, and the Township, a spread-out mix of acreage, wineries and the historic village of Fort Langley on the Fraser River. Fort Langley National Historic Site is where the Colony of British Columbia was proclaimed in 1858. It sits 45–60 min from Vancouver by car, so most visitors come as a day trip from the city rather than as a base.

Getting around
A car is the practical answer: the Township runs from the Fraser River to the US border and most sights sit 10–20 min apart by road. TransLink buses cover Langley thinly but daily — 502 and 503 run Langley Centre to Surrey Central (SkyTrain Expo Line), 555 runs Carvolth Exchange to Production Way in Burnaby, 595 links Langley Centre to Maple Meadows West Coast Express. Pay with a Compass Card, Compass Ticket or tap a contactless Visa, Mastercard or Amex; cash on buses gives no change and no transfer. Transfers last 90 min (120 min on West Coast Express). Taxis and Uber, Lyft and Kabu all operate.
