La Vallée-du-Richelieu is a flat river valley 30–45 minutes from Montréal, strung with small towns along two riverside roads: Route 133 (Chemin des Patriotes) on the east bank and Route 223 on the west. It is known for its 17th-century forts — Fort Chambly is the showpiece — and for the 1837–38 Patriotes rebellion sites. You need a car or the commuter train plus local patience. Two days covers the forts and two or three villages; add a day for Mont-Saint-Hilaire's trails and museum.
