The Quebec Region is the provincial capital plus the rural counties around it: the north shore of the St. Lawrence from Portneuf to Charlevoix, Île d'Orléans, and the Jacques-Cartier and Laurentides reserves inland. Quebec City is the only real base — everything else is 20–90 minutes by car. Sleep in or near Old Quebec for walkability, or in Sainte-Foy for parking and cheaper rooms; day-trip the falls, the island and the Charlevoix coast rather than moving hotels.
