Komsomolsk-on-Amur is the third-largest city in the Russian Far East and a Baikal-Amur Mainline hub, about 8 h by bus or 11 h by train from Khabarovsk. It is an industrial city, not a sightseeing city: the draw is Soviet-era architecture, murals and the Amur riverfront, plus onward rail and river links. Most travellers give it one night, or skip it entirely.

The centre is walkable. Trams 2, 3 and 4 run to the river terminal; trams 1, 2 and 5 reach the railway station; all lines meet at Lenina and Mira Prospekts. The railway station is about 4 km from the riverfront, so allow 20–30 min by tram or bus 17.
