Kichijoji is a western Tokyo suburb on the JR Chūō and Sōbu lines and the terminus of the Keio Inokashira line. Its draw is Inokashira Park — cherry and maple trees around a lake — plus dense shopping streets, live houses and yakitori alleys. It works as a half or full day from central Tokyo, or as a quieter base for the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka.

Everything central is walkable: station to Inokashira Park is about 15 min on foot. JR Chūō/Sōbu lines and the Keio Inokashira line cover the region; the Chūō Special Rapid and Ōme Special Rapid do not stop at Kichijoji, so take a local or rapid that does.
