Where to stay in Jaipur: best neighborhoods and hotels

Stay inside the walled city if this is your first trip and you want to walk to Hawa Mahal, the City Palace and Johari Bazaar. Stay in Civil Lines or Bani Park if you want a quiet street, a pool and easy parking. Stay in Amer only if a fort view is the point of the trip and you accept a 30–45 minute drive to everything else.

Two nights covers the main sights; three nights lets you add a block-printing workshop or a day trip without rushing. Arriving by train at Jaipur Junction puts you 2 km from the old city, so a walled-city guesthouse is a short auto-rickshaw ride.

Prices are 2026 estimates for a double room in high season (October–March). Low-season rates in May and June often fall by a third or more.

The walled city is laid out in a grid of nine blocks, and the streets around Hawa Mahal, Johari Bazaar and Tripolia Bazaar are the busiest. A guesthouse here means you can start at Hawa Mahal when it opens, walk to the City Palace and Jantar Mantar, and eat dinner near Bapu Bazaar without booking a car. The trade-off is traffic noise, touts and lanes too narrow for taxis, so you will walk the last stretch with your bag.

Bani Park sits north of the old city along a wide, tree-lined road of mid-range hotels and homestays. It is the easiest area for families and for anyone with a car and driver, and autos to the old city take 10–20 minutes depending on traffic. Civil Lines, a little further east, has the city's upscale hotels, better restaurants and quieter streets.

Amer Road and Amer village put you next to Amber Fort, Panna Meena ka Kund and the lake palaces. Mornings at the fort are calm before the tour buses, but you will need a car for every meal and every other sight. The area around Jaipur Junction railway station suits a late arrival or an early departure and little else.

For a longer stay, a homestay in Bani Park or a haveli in the old city usually beats a chain hotel on value. Confirm air conditioning, hot water and whether the room faces a main road before you book; street noise is the most common complaint in the walled city.

Budget guesthouses and hostels in the old city run ₹700–1,500 for a double, or ₹400–800 for a dorm bed (2026 estimate). Mid-range hotels in Bani Park and Civil Lines are ₹2,500–6,000. Heritage havelis and fort-view properties in Amer or the old city start around ₹8,000 and reach ₹25,000 or more in peak season.

Add 12–18% GST on rooms above ₹7,500 a night, and expect a small tip for staff who carry bags. Hotels often quote in rupees; paying by card is normal in mid-range and upscale places, while guesthouses may prefer cash or UPI.

Book October–March at least a month ahead, and earlier for the wedding and Diwali weeks. Ask for a room away from the street in the walled city, and check whether the hotel arranges airport pickup, which saves haggling on arrival.

If you are moving on to Delhi or Agra, a hotel near Jaipur Junction makes an early train simple. For a longer Rajasthan loop, Alwar and Pilani are reachable by road or rail and make useful stops.
