Győr sits midway between Vienna and Budapest, about 1 h 15 min by train from Budapest and 1 h 30 min from Vienna, so it works as a break in the Vienna–Budapest run rather than a destination on its own. The old town is small and flat, the rivers and thermal baths give it a second reason to stop, and one night covers the core. Two nights only if you add a day trip to Pannonhalma or Mosonmagyaróvár.

The old town is pedestrian and flat: walk it. Local buses (Kisalföld Volán) cover the outer districts and the baths if you stay outside the centre. Trains and buses both leave from the station area south of the centre.
