Freeport is a small crossroads town on Choctawhatchee Bay, at the junction of US 331 and SR 20, about 30 minutes' drive from the South Walton beaches. It has a golf course, a nature centre and a handful of local restaurants, but almost no lodging and no beach of its own. Most travellers pass through on the way to Santa Rosa Beach, Destin or I-10.

You need a car. Freeport sits at the US 331 / SR 20 crossroads; there is no useful local bus and the beach is 20–30 min away. Drive times: Santa Rosa Beach about 20–30 min, Destin about 35–45 min, DeFuniak Springs about 25 min, Panama City Beach about 1 h. Fill up before the beach run — fuel and groceries are cheaper here than on FL-30A.
