Freeport is a small crossroads town on Choctawhatchee Bay, at the junction of US 331 and SR 20, about 30 minutes' drive from the South Walton beaches. It has a golf course, a nature centre and a handful of local restaurants, but almost no lodging and no beach of its own. Most travellers pass through on the way to Santa Rosa Beach, Destin or I-10.
