Clare packs the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren limestone and trad-music villages into a county you can cross in about 90 minutes. Public buses only cover the Limerick–Ennis–Galway corridor and one slow coastal route, so a car (hire at Shannon Airport) is what turns the west into a real visit. Sleep in Ennis for rail and town food, or in Doolin/Lahinch for cliffs at opening time and music at night.
