The Shannon Region is County Clare, County Limerick and County Tipperary: a lowland of ruined abbeys, tower houses and small market towns, with the Cliffs of Moher on its Atlantic edge. It is compact and easy to reach through Shannon Airport, but the sights are scattered, so a car turns three days of waiting for buses into three days of driving short loops. Sleep in Limerick for the city and the airport, or in Ennis for Clare and the coast.

- Atlantic weather: rain any month, mild winters, cool summers. May–Sep gives the longest days and the best odds; the Cliffs of Moher are often in cloud, so keep a spare day.
July and August are the busiest at the Cliffs and in Adare; May, June and September are quieter with similar daylight.
