Belize has a dry season from roughly December to May and a wet season from June to November, with the storm risk peaking in September and October. The cayes stay cooler than the interior thanks to trade winds, while Cayo and the west run hotter and wetter.

Weather by region
The country splits into three useful weather zones. The cayes and coast (Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye, Placencia, Hopkins) are tempered by trade winds, so even hot months feel bearable; cold fronts can still bring grey days from December to February. Storm risk runs June to November, peaking September to October.
Cayo and the west (San Ignacio, Mountain Pine Ridge, Caracol) are hotter and more humid, with April and May reaching about 35 °C. Heavy rain can close the ATM cave, so build in a spare day if that is your priority.
The south (Toledo, Punta Gorda, Cockscomb) is the wettest part of the country, with up to 4,000 mm of rain a year. February to April is the most reliable window there.

Costs and crowds by season
High season runs from around mid-December to April, when the cayes and Cayo fill and room rates peak. Easter week is the tightest domestic travel period: buses are reduced and alcohol sales are limited on Good Friday.
The cheapest window is June to November, with September and October the quietest and lowest-priced months. Expect some caye businesses to close then, and treat travel insurance and a flexible plan as part of the cost of going in storm season.
Shoulder months such as May, July and November can give you dry-enough weather and lower prices, but rain is more likely than in February to April.

Lobster season opens in mid-June and closes in mid-February, with Lobsterfests around the opening. Whale sharks gather at Gladden Spit near the full moon between March and June, which is a reason to pick a specific week rather than a month.
Garifuna Settlement Day on 19 November brings drumming and re-enactments to Dangriga and Hopkins. In September, St George's Caye Day (10 September) and Independence Day (21 September) mean parades and closed offices, but that is also the storm peak.
