Zhytomyr is a 270,000-person regional capital 150 km west of Kyiv, on the Teteriv river. Its draw is a compact old centre of 19th-century churches, a strong space museum tied to rocket designer Sergei Korolyov, and Radomyshl Castle 70 km northeast. Most travellers see it as a day trip from Kyiv or a stop on the road to Berdychiv and Vinnytsia.

Getting around

The centre is walkable: Castle Hill, Sobornyi square and the main museums sit within about 2 km. For longer hops use marshrutkas, buses, one tram line and trolleybuses (single ride ₴14 marshrutka/bus, ₴10 tram/trolleybus, 2026 estimate). Bolt, Uklon and Uber operate; a cross-town taxi is usually ₴100–200.
