Westchester is a suburban county immediately north of the Bronx, about 30–60 minutes from Grand Central on Metro-North. It is not one destination: the Hudson River villages (Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Ossining, Croton-on-Hudson) hold the historic estates and the river trail, White Plains is the transport and hotel hub, and Yonkers is the urban southern edge. Sleep in one town and day-trip the rest; a car only pays off for the northern parks and orchards.
