Where to stay
For a two-night trip, stay in or immediately around the Old Town. That puts the Cathedral, Pilies street and Užupis within a 15-minute walk and removes the need for taxis in the evening.
Alternatives: the New Town around Gedimino prospektas is quieter and still walkable; the station area is cheaper but a 15–20 minute walk from the main sights. Book early for the Kaziukas fair in early March and for December weekends, when hotels fill.
