Vilnius airport to city centre: trains, buses, taxis and costs

Vilnius Airport (VNO) sits about 6 km south of the Old Town, closer than most European airport-to-centre runs. That short distance is why the train wins: no traffic, one stop, and a fare that costs less than a coffee.

The train station is a short signed walk from the terminal. City buses stop directly outside arrivals. Taxis and Bolt pick up from the kerb outside the same doors.

The airport has its own station on the line into Vilnius. Trains run to the main railway station (Vilniaus geležinkelio stotis), on the southern edge of the Old Town, in roughly 8 minutes. From there it is a 10–15 minute walk to Cathedral Square, or one stop on a city bus or trolleybus.

Buy a ticket in the LTG Link app, at the station, or from the conductor. Fares are in the €1 band. Trains are not frequent all day — the service is built around commuter peaks, so check the timetable for your landing time rather than assuming a train every 15 minutes.

City buses stop outside the terminal and run more often than the train, including into the evening. Routes 1, 2 and 3G connect the airport with the centre and the main railway station; the 3G is the fast limited-stop route.

Tickets cost about the same as the train. Buy before boarding in the Trafi or m.Ticket app, or from a kiosk — controllers do fine passengers who board without a validated ticket. If you are staying outside the Old Town, check which route passes nearest your address before you land.

Ride-hailing (Bolt) is the default in Vilnius and usually cheaper than a street taxi. Expect €10–15 to the centre, 15–25 minutes depending on traffic. The app gives you the price before you accept, which removes the main airport-taxi risk.

If you take a taxi from the rank, use a branded company and confirm the meter or a fixed price before you get in. Card payment is normal. At night, when the train has stopped, Bolt or a taxi is the practical choice.

All figures are 2026 estimates in euros. The gap between the public transport options and a car is small in absolute terms, so pick on convenience, not on saving.

Vilnius Airport is small and quick to exit, so the walk to the train or bus is short even with bags. Allow 30–40 minutes from wheels-down to the city centre on public transport, and about 25 minutes by car.
