Vilano Beach
Stay 1–2 nights if you want a beach bed next to St. Augustine: 5 min over the A1A bridge, cheaper than downtown, but you need a car.
Vilano Beach is a small oceanfront strip on the north side of the St. Augustine Inlet, reached only by FL-A1A across a bridge from St. Augustine or from Ponte Vedra to the north. It is a sleep-and-swim base, not a sightseeing town: the beach, a handful of restaurants and a short drive to the historic district are the whole offer. Come for 1–2 nights, keep a car, and treat St. Augustine as your day out.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: FL-A1A is the only road in, and the bridge to St. Augustine is about 5 min by car. Parking downtown St. Augustine fills on weekends, so arrive before 10:00 or use the park-and-ride. Rideshare works but waits can be long at night; there is no useful local bus for visitors.

Vilano Rd near the bridge
Hotels and restaurants closest to the St. Augustine bridge; walkable to the beach via the Surfside Ave access.
Coastal Hwy (FL-A1A) north
Oceanfront motels and condos along the highway; quieter, but you drive to everything.
St. Augustine historic district
Not Vilano: pick this if you want to walk to sights and skip the bridge drive.
