How to choose, step by step
Start with how many nights you actually have. A 7-night trip is Dubai plus Abu Dhabi, with Sharjah as a half day. Ten nights lets you add Ras Al Khaimah or the east coast. Two weeks covers all seven emirates plus a desert night at Liwa.
Then match the season. November to March is the window for walking the Creek, desert camps and Jebel Jais. October and April are shoulder months: hot at midday, fine in the morning and evening. May to September, treat the country as an indoor destination and pick Dubai or Abu Dhabi, where malls, museums and pools carry the day.
Then decide on a car. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are easy on taxis and the metro; Sharjah is a short ride away. Al Ain, Fujairah, Hatta, Jebel Jais and Liwa are far more practical with a rental. Check your rental policy before any Oman border crossing.

Notes before you book
Distances are short on the map but traffic is real: Dubai to Abu Dhabi is roughly 1.5–2 hours by road, Dubai to Al Ain about 1.5 hours, Dubai to Hatta about 90 minutes. Add buffer at peak hours and on Thursday and Friday evenings.
Sharjah is a dry emirate and dress is more conservative than in Dubai; the same applies in Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. Alcohol, dress and public behaviour rules are enforced across the country, so read them before you land.
Summer heat changes what is possible, not just what is comfortable. Outdoor plans in June to August should sit before 09:00 or after 18:00, and desert camps mostly close or run reduced programmes (check).
Prices move with events and school holidays. Hotel rates in Dubai spike around New Year and major exhibitions; the same room can cost far more in late December than in mid-February (2026 estimate).
