How to choose your dates
Start with what you want to do. Beaches and the Black Sea coast work from mid-June to early September, with August the warmest water. Carpathian hiking runs from late June to early October, with September the most reliable month for dry trails. City sightseeing in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa and Kharkiv is comfortable in May, June and September, when you can walk all day without heat or ice.

Spring arrives unevenly. March is still cold and muddy; April brings 8–15 °C and the first green; May is the month most visitors would pick if they could only pick one, with 15–22 °C and long evenings. Rain is common but usually short.
Costs by season
Prices follow the seasons. Winter weekdays outside the New Year and Orthodox Christmas (7 January) weeks are the cheapest time for city hotels. Summer weekends on the coast are the most expensive.
