Turkistan is a small city in southern Kazakhstan centred on the 14th-century mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a pilgrimage destination for Kazakh and wider Central Asian visitors. Most travellers arrive from Shymkent.
