Tsikhisdziri is a half-day stop on the Batumi–Kobuleti coast: see the Petra Fortress ruins and swim at a pebble beach, then move on. One night only if you want a quiet beach day.

Tsikhisdziri is a small Black Sea village with a 6th-century Roman fortress ruin (mostly rubble) and two pebble beaches. It is a quick detour from the Batumi–Kobuleti road, not a destination on its own. Most travellers spend 2–4 hours here, then continue to Batumi or Kobuleti.

  • Caucasus ↗The Armenia–Azerbaijan and Armenia–Türkiye land borders are closed; any route that crosses them is not a route, however short it looks.
  • Caucasus ↗Georgia treats entry to Abkhazia or South Ossetia from Russia as illegal; entering that way can mean arrest or a ban when you next reach Georgia proper.
  • Georgia ↗Many passports enter visa-free for a long stay; if yours needs a visa, apply only on the official e-visa portal.
  • Georgia ↗Do not plan travel to Abkhazia or South Ossetia: crossing their boundary lines from Georgian-controlled land is treated as illegal entry, and many governments advise against it.
  • Georgia ↗In Orthodox churches women cover their heads and shoulders and wear a skirt or a wrap; men remove hats and avoid shorts.
  • Georgia ↗Carry Georgian lari in small notes for minibuses, markets and the metro card; cards work in most Tbilisi cafés and shops but not everywhere outside the capital.

Getting around

The village is small enough to walk. A marshrutka or taxi from Kobuleti (5 km) or Batumi (20 km) drops you near the fortress. For the beaches, walk down the slope from the main road.

Watch out

Safety

Tsikhisdziri is safe. The main risks are slippery rocks on the beach and the occasional stray dog. Keep valuables out of sight on the beach.
  • Petra Fortress is mostly rubble; do not expect a full castle.
  • Beaches are pebble, not sand; bring water shoes.
  • Many guesthouses and cafés close outside June–September.
