Practical tips
Use contactless payment or an Opal card on trains, ferries, light rail and buses; you tap on and off. Fares are distance-based and capped per day, and Sunday travel is capped lower, which makes it the cheapest day for a ferry-heavy itinerary (check current caps).
Sydney's weather decides the plan more than any ticket does. Summer days can pass 35 °C, when the coastal walk is better started before 09:00 or after 17:00. Winter is mild but dark by about 17:00, so do the outdoor items early and keep a gallery for the afternoon.
Free sights still cost money in small ways: parking near Bondi is expensive and limited, café lunches add up, and some special exhibitions inside the free museums charge admission. Carry water, sun cream and a hat; the UV here is high even on cloudy days.
