The south is three different trips wearing one label. Zeeland is Delta Works engineering and estuary seafood; North Brabant is Brabant cities, carnival and beer; Limburg is hills, castles, vineyards and Maastricht. Trains link the big cities up to six times an hour, but rural Zeeland and the Limburg hills need a car or a bus that stops around 22:00. Pick one province, sleep there, and treat the rest as a second visit.

  • Rush-hour congestion on the A2, A16, A27 and A50 is an everyday problem; add time for morning and afternoon drives.
  • Carnival week fills Brabant and Limburg hotels and closes some shops on the final two days.
  • Maastricht-Aachen Airport is small; check which routes actually operate before booking it.

Zeeland coast
Sea wind all year; the coast is mildest in spring and early autumn, and summer weekends fill the estuary towns.
