Singleton is a coal, power and dairy town of about 24,600 on the New England Highway, 77 km northwest of Newcastle and roughly 200 km from Sydney by road. It works as a half-day stop or an overnight on the Hunter Line, with the Southern Hemisphere's reputed largest sundial, a small historical museum and a couple of good pubs. Wineries and Lake St Clair sit a short drive out.
