Sejong is South Korea's administrative capital in name only: a planned city that opened in 2012, still half under construction, where ministries sit in a row and most sights are parks, an arboretum and a bear zoo spread across a wide, low-density map. Trains on the Gyeongbu Line stop at Jochiwon, but KTX skips the city and uses Osong, 25 minutes away by car. Buses inside Sejong run every 10 to 50 minutes, so the honest verdict is: come with a car, or come for a single afternoon.

Getting around
City buses are cheap (₩1,150 by transit card, ₩1,200 cash, up to three free transfers within 60 min) but infrequent, with gaps of 10 to 50 minutes. The BRT links Osong and Daejeon to the new city. Public bikes (Eoulling, ₩1,000 per day, app registration) work well because Sejong has bicycle-only roads everywhere. Without a car or bike, budget taxi fares between sights.

Watch out
Safety
- Distances are large and buses are sparse: check the next departure before you leave a sight.
- KTX does not serve Sejong; you arrive at Osong, 25 min away by car.
- Beartree Park and the arboretum charge entry and close one day a week: check before travelling out.
- Much of the city is still a construction site; expect detours and few street-level cafés outside the new core.
