San Juan Island is the busiest and most populated of the San Juan Islands, reached only by ferry from Anacortes or by seaplane from Seattle. It is best known for the 1859 Pig War, orca watching from Lime Kiln Point and the two harbors of Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor. Two nights is enough for most visitors; the island is about 25 km end to end and the main sights sit within a short drive of either harbor.

Bags between cities

Luggage forwarding is not part of island travel here: you carry bags on the ferry yourself, and walk-on passengers roll them from the Anacortes terminal onto the boat. If you are switching islands, take the interisland ferry with your bags rather than shipping them; there is no next-day courier service between the San Juan Islands.
