How to get there
San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is about 13 km north of downtown. Rideshare and taxi take roughly 20–25 minutes outside rush hour; the city bus is cheaper but slower with luggage.
Amtrak's Sunset Limited serves San Antonio, but it runs only three days a week, so check the timetable before you build a rail leg into the trip. From Austin, I-35 is about 130 km and 1.5–2 hours by car or bus.
Once downtown, you do not need a car for days 1 and 2. Rent one only for the day-3 trip, or book a tour that includes transport.
